GitLab Hosting
Your own GitLab instance on European infrastructure: managed, kept up to date and with private runners running in the same data center. GitLab Hosting from peaknetworks for development teams that want to retain control over their code, pipelines and data.
Your own GitLab instance in a managed container
GitLab.com and GitHub are convenient until the team grows, per-user costs start adding up, or your compliance team asks where exactly your source code and CI artifacts are stored. At that point, self-hosting makes sense — but not if it means having to dedicate an operations employee to it.
GitLab Hosting from peaknetworks means a dedicated GitLab instance running on HPE hardware in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.
We operate the server and take care of backups. You work with repositories, merge requests, pipelines and the container registry as usual — only now under your control, on your domain and on your own dedicated infrastructure.
No US hyperscaler in the background. No per-user pricing that grows with your team. No DIY operations requiring a dedicated ops employee.

Which Edition Is Right for Your Team?
GitLab is available in two editions: Community Edition (CE) and Enterprise Edition (EE). The right choice depends on your requirements for permissions, compliance, security and other enterprise features.
GitLab Community Edition (CE)
CE provides all the essential features for everyday GitLab use, including repositories, merge requests, issues, CI/CD, Container Registry, Wiki and Pages. For many teams without specific requirements for enterprise features, CE is the right choice.
GitLab Enterprise Edition (EE)
EE provides additional features for organizations with more advanced requirements around permissions, compliance, security and project management. Which features are actually available depends on the GitLab tier you choose.
A later upgrade from CE to EE is technically possible and can be handled by peaknetworks. The package size can also be adjusted up or down at any time without having to reinstall GitLab.
Why customers choose peaknetworks?
Authentication, Integrations and Enterprise Features
For teams beyond a handful of users, user management quickly becomes an operational concern. GitLab Hosting at peaknetworks supports the common enterprise integrations out of the box:
- LDAP and Active Directory for centralized user management
- SAML SSO with popular identity providers (Okta, Entra ID, Keycloak, Authentik)
- OAuth2 for external login providers
- Webhook integrations with Slack, Mattermost, Microsoft Teams, Jira and custom systems
- SMTP integration with your own mail servers
- API access without rate limits via the GitLab REST and GraphQL APIs
With GitLab Enterprise Edition, additional features are available depending on the GitLab tier you choose, including merge request approval rules, compliance, auditing, security and portfolio management.

Move from GitLab.com, GitHub, Bitbucket or an existing GitLab installation to peaknetworks. We handle the technical migration and plan the transition together with your team.
- Initial assessment — repositories, users, permissions, registry, CI/CD and other relevant data
- Set up the target instance — the appropriate container configuration on our infrastructure
- Migrate your data — repositories, issues, merge requests, wiki, snippets and, depending on the source, registry images and CI artifacts
- Migrate users & permissions — groups, roles and the desired LDAP/SAML integrations
- Verify the migration — functional tests and checks of repositories and CI/CD
- Cutover — planned switch to the new GitLab instance, including DNS changes where required
For migrations from GitHub or Bitbucket, we use the available GitLab import features. For specific requirements, we coordinate any additional migration steps with you individually.
Who GitLab Hosting at peaknetworks is for
Self-hosted GitLab makes sense when one of the following applies: your team has grown to a size where GitLab.com becomes more expensive per user than running your own instance, or your compliance and data protection requirements do not allow your source code to be stored in US-based clouds.
You regularly exceed the included CI/CD minutes, or you need enterprise features that are only available on higher GitLab.com tiers.
Typical customers include software companies, agencies with their own product development, research institutions, public-sector organizations and companies in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare and defense technology.
For individual developers and very small teams, GitLab.com is often the simpler option. As your team size, CI/CD usage or requirements for control and data residency increase, running your own GitLab instance becomes increasingly attractive.
Whether you're moving from GitLab.com, GitHub or an existing installation, we'll move your GitLab environment to our infrastructure. You retain control over your instance while we take care of the reliable operation of the underlying platform.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about GitLab Hosting
-
Community Edition or Enterprise Edition?
Both are available. CE is sufficient for most teams. EE is worthwhile if you need merge request approvals with multiple rules, LDAP group synchronization, compliance frameworks or portfolio management. We can advise you on the right choice and can also handle the technical switch later.
-
Who updates GitLab to new versions?
We handle GitLab updates and version upgrades for you and carry them out in a controlled manner. Minor and patch versions can be updated as well as larger version upgrades. For major versions, we consider potential impacts on integrations and pipelines and coordinate the appropriate timing with you.
-
How do CI minutes and runners work?
CI minutes are not charged separately at peaknetworks – runners are included in your package. You get dedicated runners rather than shared runners used by other customers.
-
Can I migrate my existing GitLab installation?
Yes, completely free of charge. We can migrate from GitLab.com, self-hosted GitLab, GitHub and Bitbucket. Repositories, issues, merge requests, registry data and CI artifacts are migrated. For GitHub Actions or other pipeline formats, we can help with the transition to GitLab CI.
-
Where are my repositories, registry and backups stored?
Exclusively in data centers in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. Nothing is outsourced to AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, including backups or registry storage.
-
Do I get root access to the server?
You do not get root access to the host server, but you have full control over your own container, including root privileges. This allows you to manage and configure your GitLab environment according to your requirements. The host system and underlying infrastructure are managed by us.
